Are Regular Dental Cleanings Necessary?

Yes! Regular dental cleanings are necessary to maintain great oral health and condition.  A dental cleaning is also known as prophylactic or preventive dentistry.  This procedure helps prevent and detect potential issues in your gums and teeth before they become a problem.  The procedure involves removing plaques and tartar buildup on the surfaces of the teeth and behind the gum line.  The teeth are also polished to improve its aesthetic and promote oral hygiene.  In general routine dental cleanings should be done 6-12 months apart depending on your teeth condition and lifestyle.  The actual schedule would always depend on each individual cases.

First we would have a consultation and evaluation on the needed treatment process.  Once this is established and explained with you, Dr. Masciadri will give you a personal examination and evaluation.  Patty, our excellent dental hygienist will then do the treatment using various methods that are available.  Dr. Masciadri would then also does the periodontal treatment herself if necessary.

The frequency of when to change your toothbrush depend son several factors, how often do you brush per day, the material of the brush and personal oral hygiene habits. In general a toothbrush should be replaced every 3-4 months or once it has become frayed or worn out. 

The visible presence of gum disease differs on each individual but the most visible condition is the presence of a receeding gumline and sometimes redness if not bleeding during regular brushing.
